Trustees Needed.

Tia Rescue is a greyhound, lurcher and heavy horse charity, (registered as a charity in both England & Wales and in Scotland), and is completely independent of the greyhound racing industry. We have charity shops in Nairn and Pickering, North Yorkshire. The Charity operated in Yorkshire for 26 years but after the pressures of the pandemic relocated to Nairn, Inverness, almost two years ago to try and safe guard the Charity.

We are dedicated to the rescue, care, and rehoming of our wonderful dogs and horses.

As we now have charitable registration in Scotland as well as in England & Wales, we are looking for additional trustees to help us in our mission. The responsibilities of trustees are outlined in charity legislation, but essentially, your role will be to help guide the charity into the future, helping to develop and maintain the effective and efficient running of the organisation. The demands of being a trustee mean that a time commitment is important. In addition to regular trustee meetings, (approximately on a quarterly basis), sub-groups discuss detailed aspects of the charity’s work in order to support the operational team and bring recommendations to the full board. There are also occasional meetings in between these times to support particular projects or programmes of work. Since Coronavirus, most meetings are held virtually, by video, although we hope to hold at least one face to face meeting annually in the future.

We are looking for new trustees to support us in our work. You will need to be able to commit to regular meetings, mostly online; work on projects outside of meetings; and, most importantly, be a team player. We welcome trustees from all backgrounds, although skills and experience in Finance, People management and welfare, PR/communications, animal health and welfare, business development, IT, digital development, and legal & compliance are especially useful. Having said that, enthusiasm in supporting the aims of the charity is the most important aspect of a trustee and everyone can contribute to the success of Tia. We particularly welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds and will provide support to help new trustees in their role.

If you think this role is for you, please contact Fiona McLaglen (fionam@tia-rescue.org) who will be happy to tell you more about the trustee role and answer any questions you may have.

Lucky dogs…

Lucky dogs…

I know a lot of people have been worried that we won’t be rehoming anymore..

We are, it’s just done in a different way. Fortunately with all the people I have met, owners and trainers and of course our amazing volunteers, over the past 28 years, we have all pulled together to make that possible.

This weekend alone…Queenie, Diablo, Blaze and Wilfred have been rehomed direct from two trainers, in Nottingham and Derbyshire. Queenie went to live with Ranch who had been adopted previously from the same kennel.

Good luck everyone…Deb

A very sad state of affairs…

A very sad state of affairs…

We have 8 empty kennels in the new block and 23 kennels in the old shed that need to come down.
That’s potentially 62 greyhounds who’s lives we could save immediately.
As it is we are struggling massively, financially, so these kennels won’t be filled anytime soon. It is breaking my heart. There are thousands of dogs backing up in trainers kennels and there is nothing I can do about it..
Sad, sad, times….Deb
